SERVICE

One or more organization-operated programs or activities that have a common general objective and deploy the organization's material and human resources in a planned and systematic manner. An organization that publicly promotes or identifies itself in writing as offering a service, is licensed to deliver a service, assigns personnel and/or space to a service, or allocates financial resources to a service is considered to offer that service.

  COMMUNITY

A specific group of people living in the same locality and who may share a common culture, values, and norms. Communities can also be defined by race, religion, ethnicity, age, occupation, political status, tribal affiliation, interest in particular problems or outcomes, or other common bonds. The term "community" encompasses worksites, schools, tribes, residential neighborhoods, business districts, recreational areas, and health and human service sites.

The body of employees and/or volunteers that carries out the organization's tasks under the organization's administration and/or supervision. This definition does not include foster parents who are specifically referenced in relevant standards

Programs designed to address individual and group development and well-being in addition to conditions that impact individuals and groups including: aging, delinquency and crime, child welfare, poverty, housing, education, employment, mental health, physical health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities.

Contact initiated by a provider to identify persons in need of services, to provide information to them about services and benefits, and to encourage the use of appropriate services.

  PREVENTION

Actions taken to minimize and/or eliminate social, psychological, or other conditions. Prevention can occur at the individual, group, community, and societal levels and enhances opportunities to achieve positive fulfillment.

An evaluation, which utilizes professional expertise and skills in the collection and analysis of data to understand and describe the nature of service needs of an individual, family, or group.   SUPERVISION

Assumption of responsibility for directly overseeing and evaluating the work or work products of personnel within an organization. Also includes inspecting the act or process of accomplishing a function or activity.

CSE 8: Education and Support Group Personnel

 
Education and support group personnel are qualified by education, training, and experience to provide services.
NA The organization does not provide education or support groups.

CSE 8.01

 

Personnel leading education and support groups have the competence and support needed to:

  1. engage and motivate group members;
  2. educate individuals and families about community resources;
  3. advocate for individuals and families;
  4. identify symptoms of health, mental health, or substance use conditions;
  5. understand group dynamics;
  6. lead discussions; and
  7. facilitate group activities.
Interpretation: Competency can be demonstrated through education, training, and experience in human services.

CSE 8.02

 

Supervisors are qualified by:

  1. a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in human services; or
  2. substantial experience in human services including at least two years’ experience with outreach, prevention, or support services.

CSE 8.03

 

Employee workloads support the achievement of client outcomes, are regularly reviewed, and are based on an assessment of the following:

  1. the qualifications, competencies, and experience of the worker, including level of supervision needed;
  2. the work and time required to accomplish assigned tasks and job responsibilities; and
  3. service volume.
NA Education and support group personnel also provide individual and family counseling (CSE 7.04).

PURPOSE: Individuals and families who participate in Counseling, Support, and Education Services identify and build on strengths, develop skills to manage situational change, access appropriate community support and resources, and improve functioning in daily activities at home, at work, and in the community.
